A Little Pep in Your Step

Hi friends,
I went to Forever 21 and fell in love with this peplum dress! Sadly, the straps were too long, so i didn't buy it. #smallchestedprobs :p Anyway, it's super cute and only $13! Go buy it, and I shall live vicariously through your stylish day. I love peplums, so here are some cute ones I wanted to share.

Book Wallets

Hi friends,
"Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be."
...And a lovely place to hold my stuff.

I love reading, and the habit of carrying a book around in my hand all day is not something I am foreign to, so the fact that they are being made into wallets and purses makes me excited. I stumbled across this wallet theme, and I totally love it! Book wallets! Adorable and deters dumb robbers from stealing your wallet, because they think you're carrying a book (kidding, mostly).

The Modcloth ones are so cute. Here are 2 stores that literally have books as clutches/wallets! I want to try this as a project. Maybe Pinterest has something...I'll check now.

Here's the closest tutorial I could find. It's not quite like these examples but it's book related.

Bralettes and Bandeaus: A Summer Essential

Hi everyone,

It's so hot out!

It's times like this where I wish we could revert back to caveman times and just chill in our Tarzan loincloths. But alas, this is not the excepted norm (at least where I live), and we can't spend everyday in a bikini on the beach. Fear not! Bralettes and bandeaus are a my favorite way to beat the summer heat in style. As light weight alternative to a bra, these could allow one to get away with not always wearing a camisole underneath a semi sheer shirt and are a cool (literally) summer approach to layering.

Bralettes that don't break the bank:

From Aerie, $19.99
Currently on sale, this bralette is my favorite one that I have come across. It has small cups, much like you'd find in a sports bra, which I like because it keeps it's bralette style while providing a little support. I own it in gray.

From Aerie, $14.99
This is another on-sale Aerie bralette, but doesn't have cups. The ones without padding are usually cheaper. I love how the straps are thicker and lacy instead of looking like bra straps.

Aerie is definitely my go to store for bralettes, because they have so many styles and colors for a reasonable price.

Bargin Bandeaus:

From Aerie, $11.99
This is an Aerie bandeau. I prefer these lace ones over their "seamless" ones, because I think they look prettier.

From Forever 21, $4.99
From Forever 21, $3.80
These are a couple from Forever 21. I like that they are cheap and look more like "shirts", meaning their materials, textures, and patterns, as opposed to Aerie's bedroom approach to bandeaus. These examples aren't padded. I own two Forever 21 bandeaus have cups that are removable, but they look more like the Aerie one above. I bought them last year, so they may no longer be available. They'll be featured in future posts.

Bandeau Pros: They come in a wide variety of styles and cost almost nothing.
Cons: There are no straps and usually don't have padded cups.

Bralette Pros: They have straps and provide more coverage.
Cons: Depending on the style, some look more like bras, so instead of layering it may just look like your bra is showing. Also, some can be pretty sheer.

That's all I  got for now.

Dumb Camera Problems

Hey guys,
I know I haven't posted any "Outfit of the Day" type posts yet. I PROMISE THEY ARE COMING SOON. Right now, I'm in between cameras, so I'm trying to work that all out. In the mean time, you might get some with iffy quality shots, when I do post OOTDs. I hope thats ok!

I just wanted to clue you guys in. Like I said, there are going to be outfit posts.

In the mean time here's a cute picture of my puppy. I'm a huge animal lover, so don't be surprised if my pets (or other people's) show up in my posts. :P

Hair Phases & Preparing For a Pixie

Hi friends,
I had long hair for most of my life, but these past few years I started playing around at the salon. Layers, no layers, bangs, no bangs. A couple months ago, I cut it to my shoulders, but my most recent hairstyle is pixie cut. Ahh! It's so short! I love it, though. If you're curious, here are some of my most recent hairstyles:

1 year ago Long Layers

6 months ago Long Bob

3 months ago Shorter Bob

Right now Pixie

A pixie cut can be a scary thing, so I suggest being well-prepared by knowing what you want before you walk into the salon. I poured over Pinterest photos before I decided I wanted a cut like Michelle Williams.

Front

I'd suggest finding a picture of the back of a pixie haircut, because, as I learned once I was in the salon chair, there are multiple ways to cut the back.

Back

Virtual Hair Stylers are also a great way to visualize what you'd look like with a different haircut. Some of my favorites are Taaz, Instyle, and Seventeen. They are also fun to just play around with. :)

My last piece of advice is don't over think it. It is easy to go from preparing to completely stressing out over your new hairdo. Bottom line: it is just hair. It will grow back so experiment and have fun with it! If you have recently gotten a hair makeover, feel free to post your before and after photos in the comments. I'd love to see your new looks!

Welcome to my new blog!

Hi everyone,
My name is Sierra Rose, and I am blogging again! My old blog was "Vintage and Broke". I had a fun time with it, so I thought I'd make a new one (half because I don't remember the password or email I used 4 years ago). That blog looked at vintage fashion on a budget. I'm still on a budget, but there will be other changes. This blog will have a broader fashion scope, still pulling from vintage influences but not exclusively. I won't only be talking about fashion either; I plan on making hair and beauty posts, sharing DIY projects, and maybe even some Pinterest fails. Basically,  this new blog will be an open diary of the things I find interesting or fun or pretty, and hopefully you'll find some stuff you like, too.

Welcome to my life. :)
